• less consumption of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs
• fewer divorces
• fewer job losses
• a higher salary

At Neuroplus, we are focused on helping you increase your quality of life. Our Neuro Experts are dedicated to bring forward real solutions that help you resolve your attention difficulties for good.

ADHD: what works?

When you suspect having ADHD, your first instinct probably is to talk to your doctor who most often will prescribe a psychostimulant drug.

test neuropsychologie tdahIn other European countries and Australia, researchers are prone to look for alternatives to medication. A large study published in 2020 once again demonstrated the effectiveness of neurofeedback for the treatment of attention deficit with or without hyperactivity ADHD.

These studies most often use a simple 1 eeg electrode which tends to need longer trainings to gain results as compared to the latest 19 sensor neurofeedback training systems. An American study recently showed that using a 19 electrode QEEG neurofeedback equipment improved symptoms up to twice as fast.

Whether you choose to retrain your brain circuits with neurofeedback, increase attentional neurotransmitters such as dopamine and norepinephrine with medication, or practice psychoeducational or psychological strategies to promote focus and calm, these and other approaches can prove to be effective.

You can improve your ADHD symptoms with neurofeedback:

• If you are already taking medication
• If you have been diagnosed with ADHD
• If you have symptoms of attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity that seem not severe enough to be called ADHD
• If your ability to focus is good but you want to have it become even better

In all cases, our goal in neurofeedback training is the same: allow you to improve your attention, your memory, your ease of learning and self control. Our approach integrates the best technologies, as we work in collaboration with your healthcare professionals.

An innovative approach that personalizes your brain training to reduce ADHD symptoms

questionnaire tdahEvery brain is different, and ADHD presents itself in a unique form. During the initial analysis of brain activity, more than one brain type of ADHD can be identified. For example, some people lack electrical power and mental energy while others have too much and feel more stressed and anxious.

This is why some medications or interventions work for some and not for others. Some people experience side effects with a drug but other don’t. By measuring your brain activity right from the start, it is easier to predict which strategies will help you and which may have unpleasant effects.

With a detailed baseline assessment of your brain activity, along with a tailor-made brain training plan, the risk of side effects is extremely low while probability of success is quite high.

At Neuroplus, our goal is to understand your brain in depth to better guide your improvements in attention and self-control, as well as memory, stress management, motivation, learning, sleep, and so on.

Your personalized brain training program will develop the specific brain electrical circuits that need to be optimized for you to feel better fast. The program is natural, safe with long-lasting results.

Deciding to move on with additional neurofeedback training and brain coaching is always your decision knowing that your improvements so far are most probably here to stay.

Our approach is to use the synergy of neurofeedback with biofeedback and targeted brain performance coaching tips. This specific synergy of interventions creates quicker, larger and more long-lasting results because it boosts neuroplasticity as it targets the development of specific brain qualities. The whole process is narrowed to a one-step-at-a-time brain enhancement strategy tailored to your brain’s specific needs.

What is neuroplasticity and can we strengthten it?

exercices suppléments naturels tdah quoi faire

Neuroplasticity is how the brain transforms itself to better do what you ask it to do. It is your body’s way of becoming more able to do what it is asked to do each time you learn something new or improve one of your mental or neurological qualities.

Neuroplasticity grows your brain in 2 specific ways:

  1. New connections develop between neurons that fire together simultaneously. These new connections make nerve impulses more efficient and enhance your mental capacities.
  2. New neurons are born in a region of your brain called the hippocampus. This phenomenon progressively increases the number of neurons at your service. This is the opposite of aging where neurons die, the brain shrinks and mental capacities deteriorate.

For 21 years, our Neuroplus experts have been engaged in clinical research to help you accelerate the development of your brain. Our programs are our way of passing this knowledge onto you.

Is an ADHD brain different from a normal brain?

We have analyzed the brains of thousands of people, including many who are looking to improve their attention and concentration or soothe their hyperactivity.  Here is what their brain looked like from the start:

Note: The following QEEG images and information have no diagnostic value. If you need to be diagnosed, consult your doctor or a neuropsychologist.

Increase in slow 4-7 hertz theta waves in the frontal regions identified by an apple green color: attention difficulties can be linked to a higher level of theta waves. This leads to a slowing the frontal lobes, associated with symptoms of inattention.

Increase in slow 4-7 hertz theta waves in the frontal regions identified by an apple green color: attention difficulties can be linked to a higher level of theta waves. This leads to a slowing the frontal lobes, associated with symptoms of inattention.

ADHD is most often caused by an excess of slow theta waves in the frontal regions.

Because theta waves are slow waves, their excess has the effect of slowing down cognitive functions.

The person often tries to get stimulated through various means like moving around, talking, taking coffee, sugar, doing different things simultaneously …
In this specific case, psychostimulant medication plays its role by stimulating the release of the neurotransmitters dopamine and noradrenalin that are stimulating in nature.

On the other hand, we notice that this person also experiences a suboptimal level of theta activity for the central and posterior regions of the brain, identified by a green-blue color. This is often associated with a poorer ability to self-induce a state of calm and to fall asleep easily. A psychostimulant could theoretically make this situation worse.

Increase of 8 to 13 hertz alpha slow waves seen as the colors orange and yellow: difficulties in attention can be linked to depressive symptoms.

comment traiter impulsivité autisme douance tdah

Since the 1960s, several scientific studies have shown that depressive symptoms are often correlated with a higher level of alpha waves.

When this occurs in the frontal regions of the brain, an excess of alpha waves is often associated with difficulties in attention, mood control and impulsivity. Insomnia can increase as well as a lack of energy and clear thinking.

Stimulant-type medications may be beneficial. But if the brain already has too much fast beta or high beta brain waves, stimulants tend to increase stress, worrying, anxiety and insomnia.

Neurofeedback training can be programmed to reduce alpha slow waves. 19 channel QEEG neurofeedback can optimize all types of brain waves in the same training, thus normalizing beta waves at the same time as alpha waves. This reduces any chance of side effects as the brain moves to a more harmonious way of being as a whole.

At Neuroplus, we work on targeted brain circuit training simultaneously with a global enhancement of your brain type. To reduce excess alpha waves, we look into inflammatory markers that can be triggered by food sensitivities or cardiovascular problems to name but a few.

Personalized brain coaching to reduce an excess of alpha brain waves can include looking into food sensitivities, a diet with anti-inflammatory effects, stress control and better sleep hygiene. These are a few things we can help you ameliorate to change your brain profile, alongside your neurofeedback program.

Too much 14 to 30 hertz fast beta brain waves: a marker for excess worry. People tend to get stuck in a stress loop because of the brain’s tendency to hyperfocus. Psychostimulant medication like Adderall, Concerta and the like can make this condition worse.

médicaments tdah anxiété trouble anxieux généralisé TAG

Red spot in an area called the anterior cingulate gyrus which is Brodmann Area 24 or BA 24

This person produces too much fast 14 to 30 hertz high beta or high beta brain waves in a part of the brain that chooses what to focus on or pay attention to.

When this brain structure is overactive, it can keep the person trapped in the worry loop. They keep thinking of the things that are stressful or painful.

Usually, the higher the stress level becomes, the more hyperfocused on the issue the person becomes. She’s trapped in the worry loop like a hamster in its cage.

The person just can’t let go of the stressful idea and solutions seem hard to find. She can become obsessed with the object of her worry that can be money, food, weight, work, a love relationship and so on.

It's hard this person to see things from another points of view or to find new solutions to the situation she feels stuck in. To help her make that shift, we must bring her brain’s high beta frequencies to a more optimal level. The red area has to move from red to white.

Unlike medication which tends to alter brain activity throughout the entire brain, neurofeedback works in a more precise and personalized fashion. In this particular case, for example, the beta activity would be reduced where it is presently high and kept normal in the other brain areas where it is optimal.

Conversely, a drug that reduces brain activity calms the whole brain. Since the fronta areas of attention in this brain are normal, slowing them down can reduce attention, memory and mental efficiency.

What are the causes of ADHD and why do we have ADHD symptoms?

tdah école aide qui consulter spécialisteWe are often asked, "Is it my fault that I have ADHD?" Was I born like this? Am I going to give ADD to my children? Can I fix my ADD symptoms? ".

The answer to these questions is most probably YES and that we can change it with clinically and scientifically proven solutions.

If you've been following the neuroscience research, you understand that billions of dollars have been invested over the last 30 years to better understand the brain, how the brain works and how to ease mental health symptoms without medication.

Today, there are more and more non-drug therapies that are scientifically proven effective to reverse brain disease and aging.
Techniques to measure an individual’s brain type like PET scans, fMRI and QEEG are used in research more that ever before and some brain measures are made available to the public.

Even though we are more prone to read about new drug treatments available, neuroscience and biohacking neuroscientists are working on amazing non-drug techniques that deliver novel solutions to true brain health improvements, like 19-electrode QEEG brain mapping and neurofeedback.

Science has also brought forward a new understanding of how genetics influence a person’s attentional skills, stress resistance and impulse control to name but a few.

Genes we inherit from our mother and father also influence the levels of important neurotransmitters such as dopamine, noradrenalin, serotonin, and endorphins.

Scientific libraries are overflowing with research demonstrating the possibilities for each person to transform from within, one neuron, one brain electrical circuit at a time. At Neuroplus, we have made it our specialty for 20 years!

How to recognize a person with ADHD?

ADHD presents itself as a difficulty in sustaining optimal levels of focus and attention. This is especially evident when one is distracted, fatigued or shows a lack of interest or motivation.

A person with ADHD can struggle with doing their homework and show poor work performance. At the same time, they may very well be fully attentive to a favorite topic, TV show or video game but. This causes many people with ADHD to go under the radar and not get the help they need.

Often times, ADHD is picked up by poor memory. Couple have issues related to this all the time! Even if attention and memory problems are two different issues, the latter has a strong effect on the later. It is difficult to remember something your radar didn’t pick up.

Because information that was not harpooned cannot be absorbed, attention must be measured first before concluding that memory is impaired.

Another way to recognize attention difficulties is through the symptoms of compensation strategies. If ADHD is brought about by a brain that is under stimulated, the ADD child or adult may tend palliate by moving, asking questions, talking, seeking attention or do many things at once.

tdah routine maison aide aux devoirs

Many people instinctively find ways to increase their stress levels as a means to increase their focus. They will drink coffee or do last minute work under pressure. Kids with ADHD unconsciously find ways to make you upset just to have their brains stimulated.

All of these strategies increase levels of cortisol, noradrenalin and dopamine, which can improve focus and attention in the short term. But people eventually run out of gas as these strategies backfire.

What tests can tell what is causing our attention difficulties or hyperactivity?clinique spécialisée tdah enfant adulte

Attention difficulties are caused by improper functioning of areas of the brain that are involved in attention, including the frontal and parietal regions.

Hyperactivity comes mostly from the central areas that control the movement of the body. This area is the same one that was recognized in the sixties by the FDA for neurofeedback’s efficacy to reduce seizures when the brain is trained back to normal.

ADHD can sometimes be caused by stress. In these situations, the deeper limbic and emotional regions of the brain can be too highly activated. Other times the cortical regions show too much activity and cause worry and lack of mental flexibility.

Each person has a unique brain function, and each inattentive brain has its distinct strengths and weaknesses. The ideal approach to solving the root cause of a person’s distinct problem of inattention is to identify the regions of the brain that must be recalibrated for optimal functioning. This is what the Neuroplus brain experts do using a quantitative electroencephalogram QEEG.

tdah tsa autisme douance anxiété sommeil

The QEEG Brain Map gives a thorough explanation of a person’s inner workings of the brain. It gives real numbers as to how each of the Brodmann Areas BA is different from optimal. The human brain has around 100 BA, identified with numbers in this image.

For each BA, we measure how much the brain lacks power or has too much power for each of the 5 frequency bands delta, theta, alpha, beta, and high beta.

Every person’s brain has its own reasons for having difficulty paying attention, planning, organizing, controlling impulses and so on. The QEEG links a person’s detailed symptoms to the BA that function too slowly or with too much fast activity for proper functioning.

« The QEEG is a neuroscience-based correlation between inner workings of the brain and the outer symptoms of attention-related difficulties. »

The QEEG becomes a personalized roadmap to attain mental ease of focus. Thus, the Neuroplus brain program is aimed to calm or stimulate the exact brain areas that seem to correlate with the dysfunctions.

The QEEG gives a profound understanding of personality traits and clients seem always surprised of how this information is helpful in better understanding themselves.

Neuroplus clients receive an expert’s understanding of why they act and feel like they do, based on their QEEG Brain Map. With this profound understanding comes a tailor-made brain training program targeted to your unique and specific needs.

« Together we work to enhance the natural functioning of your brain, once and for all. »

Who diagnoses attention disorder with or without hyperactivity ADHD?

professionnel dépistage tdah solutions

A diagnosis of ADHD can be given by a medical doctor M.D. or by a neuropsychologist who is a member of the Board of Psychologists. This goes for Quebec but it might be different abroad.

The doctor makes his ADHD diagnosis using his clinical judgment, based on your symptoms.

The neuropsychologist makes his diagnosis after putting the client on a battery of neurocognitive tests. This report measures your level of cognitive functioning as it relates to attentional abilities, such as memory, sustained attention, divided attention and so on.

How do you know if you have ADHD and what are the symptoms?

To identify ADHD, your doctor relies on their reference manual called the DSM-5. It contains the information your doctor can rely on to diagnose ADHD as well as other related symptoms such as anxiety, mood disorders, insomnia and other mental disorders.

In order to receive a diagnosis of attention disorder with or without hyperactivity ADHD, the patient must present a persistent mode of inattention and / or hyperactivity-impulsivity for more than 6 months, accompanied by at least 5 symptoms for an adult, or 6 symptoms for a person under 17 years old from the following list of symptoms:

Additionally, some of the symptoms are present in more than one type of environment and some were present before the age of 12. All of the symptoms must significantly impair social, academic and professional functioning as well as quality of life.

How can QEEG neurofeedback reduce ADHD symptoms without medication?

 tdah biphentin concerta vyvanse intuniv

The brain is made up of electrical circuits. Among them, a couple of brain circuits are involved with attentional tasks. If the power of the brain circuit is either too low, or if its different frequency bands are out of sync, the attentional circuit can’t give out a good performance. And this leads to difficulties in sustaining attention.

What neurofeedback does is coach the brain to adopt an optimal brain voltage. It also shows the brain how to adjust the harmony of its frequencies.

Neurofeedback does this by a live monitoring of brain activity, with a sampling rate of 250 per second. Data is analyzed and immediate feedback is given to the brain every 2 seconds for it to readjust its functioning.

quand prendre effets secondaires ritalin concerta vyvanse biphentin
